Rockland County Executive Ed Day will host it at the Pearl River United Methodist Church at 130 Franklin Ave on Saturday, Nov. 23, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Residents of Rockland are encouraged to bring their damaged or worn items—ranging from lamps and clothing to small appliances and toys—to the event. Skilled volunteer "Repair Coaches" will assess and mend them free of charge.
However, items with gas engines and digital devices are excluded from this event.
The Repair Café isn't just about fixing things; it's a movement to rejuvenate the diminishing art of repair.
“The ability to fix and repair items is becoming a lost art,” stated Day. He emphasized that the event aims to pass down invaluable skills to younger generations, ensuring these abilities persist within the community.
This initiative also champions environmental stewardship by reducing waste and advocating for repair over replacement, which aligns with Rockland’s broader sustainability goals.
The event is made possible through the collaborative efforts of Rockland Conservation & Service Corps, Rockland Green, and local organizations like Pearl River United Methodist Church and the Pearl River Library.
Woodcraft & Willow and IBEW LU 363 volunteers will lend their expertise as Repair Coaches, making this a fertile ground for learning and community bonding.
